Altitude sickness

Altitude sickness occurs when you cannot get enough oxygen from the air at high altitudes. This causes symptoms such as a headache, loss of appetite, and trouble sleeping. It happens most often when people who are not used to high altitudes go quickly from lower altitudes to 2500 m (8200 ft) or higher.

Depending on your next trip’s destination and your health condition, our pharmacists can, under certain conditions, prescribe a treatment to prevent the symptoms associated with altitude sickness and provide advice to help you acclimatize to higher altitudes.

Eligibility criteria and details

A pharmacist may prescribe a drug for the prophylaxis of acute mountain sickness (excluding the prescription of dexamethasone and sildenafil).
